Chemistry Extra Assignments
Chemistry Extra Assignments
Is This Extra Credit?
Not really, but doing extra assignments can have an effect similar to extra credit. An extra assignment is just
what it sounds like; it is extra work that you do for an extra grade. This has two effects that help you.
First, this will give you (hopefully) a good grade to average in with the rest of your grades. Second,
it will lessen the impact of any previous bad grades you have made. Details of the assignments are below.
Here Be Dragons
On Thursday, January 14, our class had a substitute teacher. Fate then conspired against
us - school was delayed 2 hours, meaning you may not have had time to finish the video. On Friday,
in my haste to get something done, I forgot to take up the worksheets that I assigned with the video.
Which brings us here - finish those worksheets completely (a link to the video and the assignment can be
found in the calendar section) and turn them in for a homework completion grade.
The Core
For this assignment, you are to watch the 2003 movie "The Core," starring Aaron Eckhart and Hillary
Swank. I recommend that you try not to pay money to do so. This movie is almost unanimously agreed to
have the worst science of any movie... ever. Once you watch the movie, you are to write a half page
summary of the plot (use proper grammar and punctuation! Always!). You are also to list 10 science
mistakes made in the movie. For each mistake, you are to explain in your own words what the movie got
wrong, and why it is wrong. You are free to use internet or printed resources, but you must tell me what
sources you have used. Enjoy!
